I am going to be completely honest: I have ZERO background in the broadcasting industry. In fact, I was diagnosed as “selectively mute” growing up, where I would only speak to my family members. I was so quiet that my elementary school almost did not accept me.
Luckily for me, I had four older siblings who were already at the school (who did speak to people outside of the Hayden family), and they let me in. I am very glad they did because I had some of the best years at Rosemont School of the Holy Child. And yes, I slowly but surely grew out of my selective mutism.
I then went on to the Academy of Notre Dame in Villanova for high school and UPenn for college, where I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to run track and cross country all 4 years. I am now 31 years old, living in Philadelphia, and have worked in commercial real estate at my family firm (Hayden Real Estate Investments) for the past 7 years.
I work on the leasing team for all of the properties we acquire, so my job is to find tenants to fill up the empty spaces in the building. Through this, I’m able to meet remarkable individuals from all different walks of life.
While I was driving home from work one night in April 2017, I thought: why don’t I start my own podcast?
I would feature some of the extraordinary individuals I have met through my job and others along the way. My main intention behind the podcast would be to feature guests that have been through adversity but came out the other side to success! From that day forward, I spent a lot of time in front of my computer googling how to start a podcast.
I then bought a $50 recorder from Amazon and in June 2017, I recorded my very first interview for “High Five Success Stories with Steph Hayden.”
