I am going to be completely honest: I have ZERO background in the broadcasting industry. In fact, I was diagnosed as “selectively mute” growing up, where I would only speak to my family members. I was so quiet that my elementary school almost did not accept me. Luckily for me, I had four older siblings who were already at the school (who did speak to people outside of the Hayden family), and they let me in. I am very glad they did because I had some of the best years at Rosemont School of the Holy Child. And yes, I slowly but surely grew out of my selective mutism.
I then went on to the Academy of Notre Dame in Villanova for high school and UPenn for college. I am now 29 years old, living in Philadelphia, and have worked in commercial real estate at my family firm (Hayden Real Estate Investments) for the past 6 years. I absolutely love it. I work on the leasing team for all of the properties we acquire, so my job is to find tenants and to fill up the empty spaces in the building. Through this, I met a number of remarkable individuals from all different walks of life.
I have always loved to listen to people’s stories and accomplishments. Perhaps the fact that I did not speak in my early childhood helped me learn to listen.
It was April 2017 when I had a lightning bolt moment…
The lightning bolt moment struck me while I was driving home from work one night and I thought: why don’t I start my own podcast? I would feature some of the extraordinary individuals I have met through my job and others along the way. I had listened to a ton of podcasts about successful people. However, I wanted to learn how powerful women got to the top. I wanted to give listeners stories that would inspire them to achieve their goals–or even to perfect a small thing, like finding a routine they could apply to their life that would cater to their success. I had a gut-driven feeling that I absolutely had to give it a go!
From that day forward, I spent hours in front of my computer googling how to start a podcast. I then bought a $50 recorder from Amazon and in June 2017, I recorded my very first interview for “High Five Success Stories with Steph Hayden.” And the rest is history.
Fast forward to December 2017–I have decided to shake things up and have male guests from time to time! Lots of gentlemen I have met have really amazing stories that also need to be shared!!
